Since December 2012, Jarrett Dougherty of Screaming Females has hosted his podcast "Out Of The Basement," a series of interviews with people involved in the punk world. Over the past year, he's interviewed activist artist Katy Otto, sound engineer Steve Albini, Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee, Will Staler of Defiance, Ohio, and several others.
For the latest installment, Dougherty spoke with Alex Kerns, best known as drummer and one of the primary songwriters of the DIY pop stalwarts Lemuria. In the DIY punk world, Alex is known for being able to turn any endeavor into a success--whether it be his musical projects, his record label, or his screen printing business. Jarrett and Alex discuss why good accounting is punk, how a misplaced demo can change your life, and why bands should never break up.
